Nobelity is a feature documentary, which looks at the world's most pressing problems through the eyes of nine distinguished Nobel laureates. Filmed across the U.S. and Europe, in India and Africa, Nobelity follows Turk Pipkin’s personal journey in learning about these problems and what we can do about them. The true stars of the film are the children that Turk met along the way, for it is our kids and grandkids whose lives will be most affected by the decisions and actions of today.

The Nobelity Project Filming Sequel to Nobelity
Building on critical and audience acclaim for his film, Nobelity, Turk Pipkin is continuing his global journey of knowledge and action with the feature documentary, One Peace at a Time. Nobelity is an eye-opening and inspiring look at the world's most pressing issues through the eyes of Nobel laureates, including Wangari Maathai, Sir Joseph Rotblat and Desmond Tutu. The film continues to play in film festivals, movie theaters, churches, schools and universities, and is now available on DVD. While Nobelity deals with global problems, One Peace at a Time will focus on specific solutions. The goal is to create a virtual roadmap to a better future. “Remember the sea is actually made up of drops of water. What you do, where you are is significant. They say in Africa, there is only one way of eating an elephant… one piece at a time. Desmond Tutu, in NOBELITY
The problems we face in coming decades will be increasingly shared by every nation and person on the planet, meaning effective solutions will have to come from all quarters individuals, nonprofits and NGO’s, businesses and corporations, governments and alliances of governments. Filmmaker Turk Pipkin has already begun to chronicle an array of effective and proposed solutions from each of these sectors, and will ultimately film in 15 countries on five continents. In India, Turk has been profiling the inspiring Katha school in the slums of Delhi, the remote-learning and computer-access programs of The Hole-in-the-Wall, and the orphanages of The Miracle Foundation. “We are moving from a world of haves and have nots to a world of knows and know-nots, and the equalizing forces will have to change, hopefully from fighting to friendship.” In Thailand, Turk filmed a no-nonsense interview with the “Condom King”, Mechai Viravaidya. The founder of PDA, the Population and Community Development Association, Mechai played the lead role in reducing Thailand’s birthrate from 8 to 1.8 children per family, and is credited for saving a million Thai people in the battle against HIV/AIDS. In Bangladesh, Turk filmed with Microcredit Guru and 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, and took an up-close look at numerous villages that have brought themselves out of extreme poverty. “The people are the architects of their homes; just as they are the architects of their own lives,” From World Economic Forum gatherings of global leaders to the remote mountains of Tibet where Architecture for Humanity is building a telemedicine center Turk is on the roadtrip of a lifetime, a journey of ideas and action, of knowledge and love. Turk will continue to film in the first half of 2008, chronicling sustainable development with the Kallari Collective in the Amazon River; health, water, and education efforts in Kenya and Ethiopia; the 50x15 and One Laptop Per Child global computer programs, and ultimately with sustainable rebuilding efforts in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Turk will be filming with additional Nobel laureates, with political leaders, and with inspiring leaders of programs on the ground. As with Nobelity, the new film will feature additional insights from Nobel laureates Desmond Tutu, Wangari Maathai, Arhmed Zewail, Dr. Harold Varmus, Steve Weinberg, Rick Smalley, Sir Joseph Rotblat, Amartya Sen and Jody Williams. Sir Joe and Rick Smalley have both passed away since filming with Turk on Nobelity, but their continuing presence in One Peace at a Time serves as an inspiring example of when a great mind and a great heart are united for the common good. “There’s nothing magic about change. Every act you take contributes in one way or another to an outcome.” One Peace at a Time is being funded by the tax-deductible donations from individuals and businesses committed to working for positive change in the world. Proceeds from the film will create an ongoing endowment for the education work of The Nobelity Project, as well as extensive additional materials for the Nobelity Video Library and the Nobelity in Schools program at www.nobelity.org. One Peace at a Time is an opportunity for individuals, businesses and foundations to reach out and change the world. With your support, we can help create the map to a better future, and inspire millions to do what needs to be done. Tax-deductible donations to support the making of this film should be addressed to The Nobelity Project, P.O. Box 161925, Austin, TX 78716. For more information contact Christy Pipkin, Executive Director of The Nobelity Project: 512-263-7971, or by email: info@nobelity.org. “Pipkin’s remarkable new film leaves you wanting more and thinking that if these nine laureates were in charge, we would leave a better world indeed.” The Nobelity Project’s website (www.nobelity.org) features a video library of insights from Nobel Laureates on pressing global issues, and is the home of the Nobelity in Schools program, which seeks to engage young people in the issues that will shape their own futures. |
